The story is about an American woman, Gwen, who travels to Ghana because Ghanaian music had touched her heart when she was ten years old. She has just been fired from her job as an assistant at a record company in NYC, and is searching for something in her life that will touch her heart as Ghanaian music did when she was a young girl.
When she arrives in Ghana, her taxi driver, Kofi, believes that she is a producer from New York City who can help his cousin, the manager of the “hottest” band in Ghana. She is not a producer, but her explanations fall on deaf ears as the band is having problems with their present record company and very much wants to expand their presense to the United States.
Gwen is befriended by 13 year old Lawrencia, whose mother owns the small hotel where Gwen in staying. The two explore Accra together. Gwen of course meets Kofi’s cousin and they are immediately taken by each other. In the end, after discovering that Gwen really is not a producer, she is able to obtain showcases for the band in New York and Los Angeles. Most importantly, she finds what she is seeking in Ghana, inspiration in the people and in the music that will change her life.
